Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is situated 15km (9 miles) and about 20 minutes southwest of Amsterdam and is the biggest airport in the Netherlands. The airport is built as one large terminal, split into three large departure halls, which converge again once inside.

Prayer Facilities

There is multi-faith prayer room known as the "Meditation centre" in the transit area. It is staffed from 9am to 5pm.

There is a mosque called Moskee Suleymaniye around 16 km about 17 minutes away from the airport. It is located on Ookmeerweg 206, Amsterdam. Halal dining

Halal Food

It is not known to have Halal dining outlets.

There is a Pakistan Restaurant located on Scheldestraat 100, Amsterdam, Noord-Holland 1078 is just 14 km about 13 minutes away from the airport. It is a complete halal restaurant with a halal sign displayed on their window. Another restaurant called Toko Java located just 16 km about 16 minutes away from the airport. The owners of this Indonesian restaurant are Muslims and they serve Javanese cuisine. They are located on Burgemeester van Leeuwenlaan 34, Amsterdam.

Transport

There are a number of options for transportation to and from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. These include train, bus services, shuttle buses, taxis and car rental services.

Train: The airport is less than 20 minutes by train from Amsterdam Central Station. There is a railway station in the terminalƒ??s Central Hall, under Schiphol Plaza and a train runs to Amsterdam Central Station in only 15 minutes. From Schiphol Plaza passengers can also walk straight to the departure and arrival halls. There are night trains which run every hour. To purchase domestic tickets, passengers would need to go to the yellow ticket machines at the platforms at Schiphol Plaza or at the counters of the Dutch Railways which are located near the Meeting Point at Schiphol Plaza.

Bus Services: The bus stop is on platform A7 in front of the Arrivals Hall 2. The buses go from the airport to Amsterdam and other cities. Hotel Shuttle Buses: Tickets for Shuttle buses are available at the Connexxion desk on the arrivals and Schiphol Plaza near the tourist offices (tourist information).

Taxis: Combined tours and individual tours are available by Schiphol Travel Taxis from outside Schiphol Plaza. A taxi ride to Amsterdam takes about 15 minutes and they can also be pre-booked on the airportƒ??s website. Car Rental Services: All the car rental desks are located at Schiphol Plaza, directly behind arrivals. The car hire companies include EasyTerra, Avis, Budget, Hertz, National Car Rental and Sixt.

Shopping

There are a wide variety of shops located inside of the airport, before and after passenger control. There are duty-free shops, a 24-hour supermarket at Schiphol Plaza (before security) and on both sides of immigration.

Before the passenger control there are also many shops such as Airport Telecom Shop, AKO which sells reading material, America Today which has well-known brands for men and womenƒ??s fashion, Aviflora, Capi and many more.

After passport control there are shops selling books, chocolate, flowers, gifts, fragrances, leather goods, toys, accessories and much more.

Amenities

There are many  AMRO outlets located inside the airport, before and after customs to take care of those last minute financial needs before or after flights. GWK Travelex Schipho is located at arrivals before passport control and in departures after passport control. The exchange sites for ABN AMRO are located both before and after passport control and have long opening hours.

here is a Travel First Aide Clinic in Departure Hall 2, providing check-up facilities for all passengers. There is a pharmacy at the same location and baby change facilities are provided in all the toilets throughout the airport.

Sheraton Fitness and Spa in Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel is located in the passageway which is between Schiphol Plaza and the World Trade Centre for relaxation. There are showers in Lounge 3 on the first floor in Hotel Mercure. There is a fully equipped baby room and many play areas for children on Holland Boulevard.

Hotel Mercure Schiphol Terminal Hotel is in terminal 3 lounge, beyond customs. The hotel has showers 24 hours a day, day rooms and overnight facilities. The Yotel Schiphol Airport is in the arrival and departure area of the airport in Departure Hall 2, near Pier D.

Sheraton Amsterdam Airport Hotel is the only hotel with direct access to arrival and departure halls of Schiphol.
