Eindhoven, a city in the province of North Brabant is the fifth largest city in The Netherlands. Although Eindhoven is not a main tourist destination in The Netherlands, the city has a wide variety of things to do and see. Home to a range of museums and fabulous shopping streets this modern metropolis is a great destination to enjoy a weekend getaway. Known as the City of Lights, Eindhoven houses the factory that started manufacturing light bulbs. The factory still exists and it now houses a museum.  Muslim travelers will be able to locate Muslim-friendly facilities in Eindhoven. There are a couple of mosques and Halal restaurants in Eindhoven.

There is plenty to see and do in Eindhoven and most of the sightseeing can be done on foot or bike as the city is quite compact. Those wanting to do a walking tour should start off at the Market Square. This is the heart of the city and is surrounded by pedestrian only streets. As you wonder through the streets you will find this area to be the best part of the city for shopping. Another great way to see the city is by bicycle. Tourists can hire a bike and join the hundreds of cyclists that explore this lovely city on two wheels.

If it’s culture you are interested in, the city has plenty of it. Apart from being a business hub the city is home to several museums as mentioned above. Not to be missed when in Eindhoven is a visit to the Van Abbemuseum. This museum houses one of the top ten art collections in the world, therefore making it a definite must-see for any visitor. Another interesting museum is the DAF Museum where vehicles and its parts are showcased. This is a definite must-visit for the automobile lover.

The historic Open Air Museum in Eindhoven allows visitors to travel back into the history of the city. Those visiting the museum during the weekend or holidays will discover other activities are usually organized during this time. Eindhoven is a city that is also home to several landmarks. Evoluon is a building resembling a UFO and was built by Philips as a symbol for the company’s great achievements.

There are also plenty of green spaces in the city and many parks and gardens to explore. Eindhoven is in fact said to be one of the greenest cities in The Netherlands. Some of the popular parks in the city are Gennerper Park and Stadswandelpark. Gennerper Park covers a large area, therefore making it the best place to enjoy a walk or bike ride.

Nearby Airports

The closest major airport to the city of Eindhoven is the Eindhoven Airport, which is located approximately 10 kilometres away from the center of the city. It is the second largest airport in The Netherlands and has international and domestic flights. Tourists can travel to their destination in the city by bus or taxi. Due to the city’s proximity to Germany, visitors can also use the services at the German airports.   

Halal Restaurants

There are a few known Halal restaurants in Eindhoven. Smeagol, Indiaas Taj Mahal Restaurant, Antep Tatlisil, Café T Vonderke, Antep Kebab Salonu, Hanedan are some of the restaurants said to serve Halal food in Eindhoven. Muslims tourists must however make sure the food served at any of these restaurants is Halal before dining. They should also be aware that some of these restaurants may serve alcohol.

Mosques

There are a few prominent mosques in Eindhoven. The Maith Mosque and Al Fourqaan Mosque are the masjids in Eindhoven at which Muslim tourists can offer their prayers. Muslim visitors can also make inquiries regarding other prayer facilities in Eindhoven while at either of the mosques mentioned above.
