Al Khor is a beautiful coastal city located in Qatar. The city is known to have the largest concentration of mosques. The city has been around for longer than Doha but is quite small. The area was once the hub for pearl fishing and is presently being renovated. There is no dearth of mosques or halal restaurants in Al Khor. The ride from Doha to Al Khor is quite exotic and after a long drive along the desert visitors are welcomed with blooming flower beds as they enter the city. Al Khor is a refreshing change from Doha and is a peaceful destination to spend some time in.

Al Khor is located along the eastern coast of Qatar and is a serene destination. The city has a small population and at one point was the main center for the pearl industry. The corniche area of Al Khor is quite lively and one of the prime attractions of the city. The watchtower along the corniche gives visitors a complete view of the beach and the surroundings. The watchtower dates back to 1900 and was built for defense purposes.

The Al Khor Museum is placed along the seafront and features numerous archeological artifacts from the Neolithic to the Bronze ages. Those who wish to observe traditional Qatari architecture, a visit to the House of Nasser bin Abdullah Al-Missned is recommended. The Simaisma Mosque is a historic mosque located about 17km from Al Khor and is built by using corals, sun-baked mud and rocks. The Al Farkiah Beach is also a good place to relax in the city.

When it comes to shopping Al Khor offers a good shopping experience. The Al Khor Mall is the best destination for shopping. There are several small shops and boutiques dotted across the city where visitors can find a variety of things.

Nearby Airports

The nearest airport to Al Khor is the Doha International Airport which is located about 50km from the area. Buses are available from the Doha bus station to Al Khor. Visitors can also take taxis to reach Al Khor.

There are numerous halal restaurants in Al Khor; almost all the restaurants in Al Khor serve halal food.
