Located in Veszprém County, in Hungary, is the popular resort town of Balatonfüred. The town is located on the north shore of Lake Balaton, approximately 140 kilometres from Budapest and 20 kilometres from Veszprém. Balatonfüred is home to historical sites and buildings, a few beaches, medicinal waters, and so much more. It is a great town to be discovered and offers activities for all ages. The town is frequented by those looking for some relaxation, and by those looking for spa and wellness centers and cultural entertainment. Balatonfüred has however managed to keep its traditional roots and Baroque elegance. Balatonfüred is one of the nicest towns located on the shores of Lake Balaton and is known for its stunning views of the Tihany Peninsula. Muslim visitors must be aware that they will not find it easy to locate Muslim-friendly facilities like, Halal food and prayer areas in Balatonfüred.

As always, walking around any town is the best way to see it. Since Balatonfüred is quite small and there are great walkways and tree-lined promenades, walking around is quite easy. The Old Town of Balatonfüred is a must-visit. It is quite different from the new town which is situated along the lake. The Old Town is home to a number of churches and beautiful old buildings that are subtly elegant.

Another must-visit is the Tagore promenade; which was named after a famous Hindu poet, Rabindranath Tagore, who was cured in the hospital. The pier is a meeting spot for writers and poets, as well as artists, and is where visitors can get pictures drawn of themselves. Locals and tourists also come here to feed the gulls and swans and watch the sailboats glide on the turquoise water.

In 1971, when Balatonfüred’s acidic water was found to be medicinal, Balatonfüred became the first therapeutic holiday resort in Hungary. This water is said to cure heart and circulatory disorders, as well as motoric, skin, and gynecological diseases. Balatonfüred is home to the renowned Füred cardiac hospital; which receives patients from all around the world. Tourists can pay a visit to the bath houses and drinking wells in Gyógy tér. The Kossuth Lajos drinking hall on Gyógy tér, is where visitors can go to drink the medicinal water.

Those with kids must pay a visit to the Annagora Aquapark, which is a spa and water park. The Annagora Aquapark is home to wave-pools, kid’s pools, wellness-pools, heated indoor and outdoor pools, scent chambers, slides, saunas, steam cabins, and an ice cave. The water park is located only 500 metres from Lake Balaton and offers beautiful panoramic views of the area.

Balatonfüred is also a great place for those looking to get active. There is a cycle path around Lake Balaton, horse-riding in Pécsely-Klára Puszta, and numerous water sports, including; swimming, yachting, wind-surfing, and water-skiing. During the winter, the frozen lake is used by ice skaters and hockey players.

The closest international airport to Balatonfüred is Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, located in Budapest; approximately 163 kilometres from the center of Balatonfüred. Those arriving at the airport can either take a train or the bus from Budapest to Balatonfüred. Both the stations are easily accessible by public transport.

Halal Restaurants

There are no known Halal restaurants in Balatonfüred. Muslim visitors could dine at local vegetarian and seafood restaurants after making sure the dishes served do not contain any non-Halal items.
