Basel, located along the Rhine River, is among the important and better known cities of Switzerland. It is considered as the main access to the Swiss Jura Mountains and is located quite close to the cities of Zurich and Lucerne. The Rhine River meanders through the city segregating it into two parts. On the southern and western banks lies the Great Basel in the heart of which is the medieval old town. On the northern bank is the Little Basel, which is hip and happening. There are a few Muslim-friendly facilities in Basel including a few mosques and halal restaurants. The city is a cosmopolitan destination because of its bustling industrial scene and a considerable student population. Basel is also located close to the German and French borders.

The city is the sunniest in the country and is best to visit during the summer months. The city features historic as well as modern architecture which is good to look around. Visitors can take a boat ride along the Rhine which is a great experience. The best attraction in the city is the medieval Old Town.
