Situated in the west of The Netherlands, Delft is a beautiful, unspoiled university town that is home to traditional architecture, interesting museums, mansions, markets and stunning canals. Famously known around the world for its beautiful blue and white ceramic, Delft houses the only surviving 17th century factory that produces hand painted pottery. The city of Delft is a great destination to experience the cultural wealth of old Holland and is also a wonderful city to use as a base to explore the region, especially for those wanting to avoid the crowds of Amsterdam. Muslim tourists will be able to locate some Muslim-friendly facilities in Delft. There is one known mosque in Delft, as well as a few restaurants which serve Halal food in Delft.

The best way to discover the city of Delft is to take a cruise and explore the canals. Although a walking tour is a great way to see the famous buildings and landmarks of the city, to really get the feel for the city’s history and culture, a canal tour is essential. Visitors can rent a canal taxi boat to take them to the popular tourist areas.

A visit to the only remaining Delft blue earthenware factory known as Royal Delft is a definite must.  A tour will take visitors through the impressive history of Royal Delft, as well as through the production process. Delft Botanical Garden is home to over 7000 plants and is considered to be the greenest place in Delft.  Pay a visit to the gardens and discover a variety of plants while enjoying the tranquility of the garden. Delft is also home to several museums. Visitors can pick a museum or two to visit, depending on what interests them.

Not to be missed is a visit to the numerous markets in the city. These markets can be found in the city’s center and is a major draw for tourists as well as locals. Visitors will enjoy exploring the numerous stalls which sell products ranging from antiques to books, fresh produce, cheese and much more.

The closest major airport to the city of Delft is Rotterdam The Hague airport, which is located approximately 10 kilometres from the center of Delft. Although this airport is the closest it has poor public transport connections to the city of Delft. Tourists can also travel to their destination by taxi or prearranged taxis from Delft. Another major airport visitors can use is the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is located about 48 kilometres from the center of Delft. Visitors can travel by train to Delft, which is 45 minutes away or use a prearranged taxi to get to Delft.
