Halifax is among the largest natural harbors in the world and since ancient times it has been an important maritime destination. The waterfront of Halifax is the prime destination for visitors as it has several museums, shops, markets and entertainment complexes. The main highlight of the city is the Halifax Citadel, which is perched on a hill overlooking the city.
Pier 21 in Halifax has been named as the National Immigration Museum. The area is often compared to the Ellis Island of New York. The museum contains several important exhibits related to the Canadian immigration. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic also features a wide range of artifacts relating to the sinking of the Titanic.
