Description

Muscat is the capital and largest city of Oman. Located towards the northeast of the country, the city is home to a large population of over a million residents. Travellers to Muscat will be able to note numerous luxury hotels, fancy shopping malls and multi-lane highways across the city.

The history of Muscat can be traced as far back as the early 1st century CE, when it played the important role of being a trading port between the east and the west. At present, it is the pulsating heart of Oman as well as a popular tourist destination and will stun travellers with its rich cultural heritage and distinct atmosphere.

Travellers will find plenty to do and see in Muscat. Some of its most prominent attractions include Al Jalali Fort and Al Mirani fort, Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace, Corniche Area, the third largest mosque in the world - Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Qurum National Park and the Nakhal Fort. Several museums such as the Bait az-Zubair Museum, Children's Museum and the Sultan's Armed Forces Museum can also be visited.
