Located north-west of Sri Lanka in the Trincomalee District is the beautiful coastal town of Nilaveli. The town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. It is home to the Nilaveli Beach which is said to be one of the best white sand beaches in Asia. It is also a popular destination among scuba divers and those looking for a little peace and quiet. The area has numerous attractions and offers spectacular, breathtaking views. Nilaveli is definitely a must-visit when in Sri Lanka. Muslim visitors must be aware that they will find it quite difficult to locate Muslim-friendly facilities in Nilaveli.

As the town is renowned for its beaches, while here, tourists must make it a point to visit Nilaveli Beach. With is soft white sand and breathtaking coastline, this attractions is definitely unforgettable. The beach is ideal for Muslim tourists as it is not as crowded as one would think; therefore providing the privacy Muslim visitors would need. It is also the perfect place for those seeking a break from their hectic schedules. Water sports play a huge part in the popularity of this beach. Visitors can go surfing and windsurfing, swimming, scuba diving and snorkeling while here.

One of Nilaveli’s major attractions is Pigeon Island. This small island is named after the pigeons which gather and breed here. The closest major airport to Nilawela is Bandaranaike International Airport, which is located in Katunayake and is Sri Lanka’s major airport. This airport is located about  221.2 kilometres from Nilaveli.

There are a couple of Halal restaurants in Nilaveli. Nilaveli Village Restaurant is one establishment in Nilaveli which is said to serve Halal food. Muslim tourists will also be able to find numerous vegetarian restaurants here. Nilaveli has numerous sea food restaurants at which Muslim tourists could dine after making sure the dishes do not consist of any non-Halal items.

Mosques

There are no known mosques in Nilaveli. Muslim tourists can however use the facilities offered at the mosques in Trincomalee, which is about 20 minutes away. It is therefore best for Muslims to offer their prayers in the hotel room, when possible. Muslim visitors can also make inquiries about prayer areas in Nilaveli at one of the local Halal restaurants.
