Phuket Town is the administrative seat of Phuket Island, featuring numerous attractions and exciting things to do. Visitors often overlook this town when in search of the ideal holiday destination, but it is a wonderful mix of old and new, and is great for a getaway. The town is always bustling with activity and is a lot more than what visitors expect.

The Old Town area of Phuket Town is lovely to walk around and enjoy shopping at historic shop-houses. Old Phuket is quite an interesting place to visit with its beautiful historic mansions. Today there are several shops that have opened in these historic mansions giving visitors some excellent opportunities to shop. The Chinatown area of the town is however Phuket Town's prime attraction. Everywhere around Chinatown visitors can get a glimpse into the Chinese history and culture that prevails in the area. 

Another place to stop by is the Phuket Cultural Museum. The museum details the history of Phuket through pictures and static scenes. Climb up the Khao Rang Hill on the north-western end of the town to get complete views of the Phuket Town. The Phuket Butterfly Farm and the Thai Village and Orchid Farm are located within easy reach of the town and excellent attractions to visit with the family. The Phuket Zoo is located along the route to Chalong Bay and has a good collection of animals and birds.

Shopping is one of the main reasons why people visit Phuket Town. There are several local markets and a few shopping malls where visitors can find several interesting items. The Phuket Walking Street is among the latest attractions in the town and hosts a local market. Thanon Thalang in Chinatown offers a wonderful array of shops and boutiques where one can find an array of items. The Ranong Market and the Weekend Market are also good places to shop. Phuket Town also has a number of shopping malls like Ocean and Robinsons, SuperCheap and Central Festival.

Nearby Airports

The nearest airport to Phuket Town is the Phuket International Airport. It is located about 30 Km from the town. Taxis are available from the airport to Phuket Town. The journey takes around 30 minutes and a one-way trip costs 500 Baht. Shared minibuses are also a good way of travelling from the airport to Phuket Town. They take around 45 minutes and ideally cost 600 Baht for 2 people. There is a government operated bus that leaves from Terminal 1 to Phuket Town; a one-way trip costs 90 Baht. These buses run from 9 AM to 8 PM.

Halal Restaurants

There are a good number of halal restaurants in Phuket Town. Some of the best halal restaurants in the area include Karachi and a few restaurants along the Thalang Road. Visitors can ask around with the locals about Muslim Restaurants. Patong is just 20 minutes’ drive from Phuket Town and offers a good range of halal restaurants.

There are a few mosques in Phuket Town. The most prominent mosque in Phuket Town is the Yameay Mosque. Other mosques include the Keeyamudine Mosque, SaphanRuam Mosque, etc.
