Plitvička Jezera - also known as Plitvice Lakes - is a municipality towards the east of the Lika-Senj county, in the heart of the country. It spans across a total land area of around 540 square kilometres and is home to a population of over 4,000 inhabitants.  The municipality itself is split into 43 smaller villages.

The area is a fairly popular tourist destination and the main town of Plitvička Jezera is Korenica, with Bjelopolje, Jezerce, Gornji Vaganac, Ličko Petrovo Selo, Plitvice and Smoljanac being some of the other smaller towns. The community of Plitvička Jezera comprises mainly Croats and Serbs.

Plitvička Jezera is also home to the Plitvice Lakes National Park - one of the oldest national parks in the European continent and arguably the most popular attraction in the country. Some of the other famed attractions in Plitvička Jezera include river Korana, Medvjeđak area and the Mrsinj wooded hill.

Nearby Airports

The closest airport to Plitvička Jezera is the Zagreb International Airport - the main airport of Croatia. Travellers may then travel to Plitvička Jezera via the Croatian Airlines bus service and then the main bus station. Reaching Plitvička Jezera will take approximately 2 hours. Plitvicka Jezera is on the way through the old road and at the main bus station travellers will need to ask for the bus that passes by the old road and not the motorway.
