Description

The city of Rovinj - also known as Ruvèigno or Ruveîgno - is a Croatian city located towards the north of the Adriatic Sea, on the Istrian peninsula's west coast. The city is an active fishing port as well as a much-frequented tourist destination. It covers an area of around 90 square kilometres and is home to a population of over 14,000 residents.

The history of Rovinj dates back to the era of the Romans who originally named the city "Arupinium" or "Mons Rubineus" and then later "Ruginium" and "Ruvinium". Following the country's independence in 1991, Rovinj became a prominent centre of the Istria County and is presently one of the most populated towns in the area, along with Pula and Poreč.

The city is a popular tourist destination and is home to a number of attractions and prominent landmarks. Some of the well-known places-of-interest in Rovinj include the Rovinj Town Museum, Zlatni Rt Forest Park, Monkodonja hill fort, the Rovinj islands and mainland.

Nearby Airports

The Pula Airport is the closest airport to Rovinj and is located about 40 kilometres away from the city centre. The airport is a fairly busy air-hub in the country and serves numerous airlines and masses of passengers throughout the year. It also serves some of the smaller cities around Eastern Italy and Slovenia.

Halal Restaurants

Finding access to Halal food in Rovinj will be rather difficult. There are no known Halal restaurants in Rovinj and Muslim travellers may have to opt for vegetarian cuisine or seafood which are usually available at most of the restaurants around the city. However it is recommended that you enquire about how food is prepared prior to dining.

Mosques

There are no known mosques in Rovinj and therefore Muslim travellers may face difficulty in finding access to prayer facilities in the city.
