There are several walking tours available in the city that takes visitors through historic and culturally important sites. The Old City sits in the heart of Yogyakarta and this is where the palace or the Kraton of sultans is located. The Kraton Complex is one of the main attractions of Yogyakarta that served as the home of Yogyakarta’s Sultan.

There are several memorials, monuments, and museums dotted across the city that have been dedicated to the history and culture of the area. The Museum Kareta Kraton or the Sultan's Carriage Museum is home to a vast collection of royal carriages and chariots. As for the best-known landmarks of Yogyakarta, The Tugu Monument sitting at the center of the city that symbolizes unity against conquerors is a famous one at that. Yogyakarta also has a large number of art galleries that feature numerous art exhibitions and beautiful artwork.

You can’t say you’ve visited Yogyakarta if you haven’t been to the Borobudur temple and the Prambanan temple!
