Located on Zanzibar Island, Zanzibar City has always been a popular a popular destination amongst tourists. Offering a delightful atmosphere and plenty of sights and activities for travellers to opt for, the region is particularly famed for its beautiful pristine beaches as well as its enchanting house buildings and winding alleys of tiny shops, mosques, courtyards and squares. Muslim travellers will also find a wealth of facilities in Zanzibar City including Halal food, mosques and prayer facilities in the city – which is predominantly Muslim in faith. Zanzibar City - also known as Zanzibar Town or simply as Zanzibar - is the capital city of Tanzania's Zanzibar region. The city is located on the west coast of the Unguja Island(also known as Zanzibar Island), which is amongst the largest and most populated islands of the country. At present, Zanzibar City is home to a population of over 200,000 inhabitants.

The city is made up of Stone Town - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the city's historical centre - and Ng'ambo - a more modern area of the town which is home to several offices and apartment blocks. The two regions are separated by a large road known as Creek Road.

The region of Zanzibar offers several other sites for travellers to explore. These include the Jozani Forest, the House of Wonders and the Arab Fort in Stone Town, the markets in Stone Town and the Seaweed Center. The East Beaches are also quite popular amongst travellers.

The main airport serving Zanzibar City is the Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, located about 5 kilometres away from the city centre. It is also known as the Zanzibar International Airport and the Kisauni Airport and offers the services of two terminals. It is a prominent airport in Tanzania and serves many airlines and hundreds of thousands of passengers every year.

Halal Restaurants

Muslim travellers in Zanzibar City will not face much of a difficulty in finding Halal food. Being home to a sizable Muslim population, the area will offer quite a few Halal restaurants in Zanzibar City as well as an abundance of seafood options for Muslim travellers. Quite a few vegetarian options will also be available in the city.

Mosques

There are quite a few mosques in Zanzibar City that cater to the city’s Muslim community. Some of the most prominent mosques in Zanzibar include the Malindi Mosque - the oldest mosque in the city - as well as the Ijumaa Mosque, Ithnasheri Mosque and Aga Khan Mosque which are all located towards the north of Stone Town.
