The municipality of Zaventem is located within the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant - located towards the centre of the country. It comprises the towns of Sint-Stevens-Woluwe, Nossegem, Sterrebeek and Zaventem proper. The area covers close to 30 square kilometres and is home to a population of around 30,000 inhabitants, with a population density of around 1,000 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Zaventem can also be commonly referred to as Saventhem, which was how it was formerly spelt. Majority of the population of the Municipality are Dutch speakers. It is well-known for being home to the Brussels Airport - which is the busiest and most important airport on Belgium.

Zaventem is located just a short distance away from the capital city of Brussels. The distance between Zaventem and Brussels is only around 10 kilometres and travellers who plan on sight-seeing in Brussels could spare some time to visit Zaventem. Zaventem offers a few attractions including seven parks and prominent landmarks in the area such as Malou Park, NATO Headquarters, Jubilee Park, European Quarter and the Berlaymont Building.
