The city of Alexandria was founded in the year 322 BC by Alexander the Great. The city during its historic times had several palaces and temples. Visitors to Alexandria can see several historic palaces and buildings all across the city. Initially Alexandria was the main port and the main entry point to Egypt. The city is located along a huge bay and the corniche along the bay is one of the best places to walk past. There are several colonial buildings located along the corniche.
Some palaces in Alexandria worth visiting include the Montazah Palace and royal gardens, the Ras-el-Tin Palace and the Presidential Palace. The Citadel of Qaitbay is another major historic attraction in the city. A visit to the Kom el-Shouqafa is also recommended. There are several other ancient ruins in the city like Pompey’s Pillar and the Roman Theatre. The Alexandria National Museum houses some historic artefacts. The Greco-Roman Museum and the Royal Jewelry Museum are also good to visit.
Alexandria is also a great place for shopping. There are several traditional markets and shopping malls that offer a great shopping experience. Some good shopping malls in the city include the Mirage Mall, San Stefano Grand Plaza Mall, Green Plaza, Zahran Mall,Alexandria City Center, Kirosez Mall, etc.

Nearby Airports

The main airport serving Alexandria is the Borg el Arab Airport. From the airport visitors can take taxis to the city. Usually taxis cost around 130-160 LE. There is a bus service available from the airport to the city, which costs 10 LE. However the buses serve the airport only twice a day, one at 10:30am and the second at 4:30pm.
