Overview
Piercing the sky at an impressive height of 333 meters, the Tokyo Tower was completed in 1958 and currently functions as a telecommunication tower as well as a popular tourist attraction. The design and architecture of the tower is believed to have been inspired from the structure of the Eiffel Tower and following completion, the tower was declared the tallest freestanding tower in the world, beating the Eiffel Tower by a 13 meter difference. At the foot of the tower, the FootTown - a specially-built four storey building - is available for tourists to shop, dine and sight-see. The Tokyo Tower is regarded as an icon of Japan's rapid industrialization and development and is believed to signify the success and triumph of the Japanese people.
