Overview
An important cultural treasure of Japan, the Katsura Imperial Villa features stunning landscape design and building structures that are considered to be amongst the greatest achievements of Japanese architecture. Built to function as a residence for the royal Katsura Family, the villa and garden area were completed in 1645 but their origins date back to as far as the Heian Era, more than a thousand years ago. Surrounded by lush vegetation on all sides, the architecture of the villa is said to express the very quintessence of Japanese taste by reflecting a blend of rustic simplicity and natural scenery. The villa covers an area of over 69,000 square metres and has stunned design experts over the years with its sheer beauty.
