Overview
Established in 1976, the Municipal Council of Penang Island is responsible for administering the Georgetown and Penang Island. The city hall that houses the Council is an elegantly-fashioned colonial building from the period of the British Empire in the late 19th century. The majestic white-washed building is a famous landmark in Georgetown and is located in front of The Esplanade. Also in the vicinity of the Council is the Cenotaph - a memorial for World War I - as well as the Padang Kota Lama.
Prayer Facilities
A number of mosques are located in the vicinity of the council for visitors to make use of during prayer times.
Halal Food
Georgetown offers plenty of Halal shops and restaurants, as well as an abundance of Halal street food which is not hard to miss.
