Overview
Set at the junction of Buckingham Street and Pitt Street, the Kapitan Keling Mosque was constructed by Penang's first Indian Muslim settlers in the late 18th century. The mosque is considered to be one of Malaysia's most historic and revered landmarks and has seen many embellishments and improvements over time. Occupying an area of over 8 acres, the Kapitan Keling Mosque features exquisite Moghul and Roman style architectural elements, with magnificent chandeliers, Arabesques of elegant floral motifs and dazzling marble floors. An information centre at the lowest floor of the minaret offers guided tours for first-time visitors.
