Overview
Popularly known as the "Coat-hanger" for its arch-based design, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of Australia's best known landmarks. It is also one of the world's longest spanning-arch bridges and was opened to the public in March 1932, following nine years of construction. Bridge climbing is a popular activity in 1998 and offers both tourists and locals a fantastic experience to ascend the bridge's arches and enjoy the spectacular views of Sydney. Another highlight of the bridge is the Pylon Lookout at the south eastern end, which features an exhibition about the bridge to visitors and also offers a breathtaking view of the cityscape. Being one of the most-photographed attractions in Australia, a visit to the Sydney Harbour Bridge is a must for all photography enthusiasts as well as travellers sight-seeing in Sydney.
Prayer Facilities
Though designated prayer facilities at Sydney Harbour Bridge will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, open space will be available around the bridge area to use during prayer times. Muslim travellers can also visit some of the several mosques in Sydney such as the Sydney Musalla, Sydney City Musalla, Al-Azhar Mosque, Bankstown Musalla and Mayfield Mosque.
Halal Food
Muslim travellers will be offered a few Halal restaurants near the Sydney Harbour Bridge, located a short walk away. Popular spots include the Zaaffran Restaurant and Aki's Indian Restaurant - both serving an enticing range of Indian cuisine. It is also possible to opt for seafood or vegetarian cuisine at some of the other restaurants in the vicinity of the area.
