Overview
The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge is a bridge in Nanjing spanning the Yangtze River between Pukou and Xiaguan. Being a double-decked road-rail truss bridge, it was built in the mid 1960s, making it the first modern bridge which the Chinese solely designed and built. The bridge stretches on for over 1,500 metres and features a total of 9 piers as well as separate sidewalk areas on either side. It is estimated that over 80,000 vehicles and 200 trains use the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge on a typical day and the bridge is of key importance for communication between the banks of the river. The area is particularly scenic at night, when floodlights illuminate the bridge and offer truly spectacular views.
