Erhai Lake

Overview

Erhai Lake - also known as Er Lake - is a prominent alpine fault lake in China's Yunnan province. Being nearly 2,000 metres below sea level, Erhai Lake is also the second largest highland lake in the country and covers over 250 square kilometres of area. There are also a few notable islands on the lake which can be visited and these include the Jinsuo Island, Guanyin Ge, Nanzhao Folklore Island and the Xiaoputuo Island. Several other attractions can be found near the lakeshore such as the Erhai Lake Park and the Butterfly Springs. The lake gets its name - which translates to "Ear-shaped Sea" - due to its unique shape and was also known during ancient times as Yeyuze or Kunming Lake.

Prayer Facilities

Plenty of open space will be available in the area despite the lack of designated prayer facilities at Erhai Lake. Muslim travellers could also visit a few of the mosques in Dali such as the Xingsheng North Rd at the Northeast Gate, the Xiaguan Mosque, the Shen Hecun Msoque as well as the main mosque of Dali which is located on the Country Road near the Southeast Gate.

Halal Food

Halal food near Erhai Lake can be found at some of the few Halal restaurants in Dali. It is best to enquire with some of the mosques in Dali about the best places where Halal food will be readily available. It is also possible to opt for vegetarian cuisine at some of the local restaurants, but inquiring about how food is prepared is highly recommended.
