Overview

The Grand Palace in Bangkok is a must-visit attraction for travellers to Thailand. The building complex has been the official residence of the Kings of Thailand since 1782 and is currently being occupied by the present monarch. Royal events and ceremonies are also frequently held at The Grand Palace which covers an area of over 200,000 square metres. The palace was built in 1782 and is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River - a major river in Thailand that flows through Bangkok. The palace complex comprises numerous buildings, halls, pavilions, lawns, gardens and courtyards. Only a certain area of the palace - a museum - is open to the public and is frequented by tourists to Thailand throughout the year.
