Hikkaduwa National Park

Overview

The Hikkaduwa National Park is one of Sri Lanka's two marine national parks and is an interesting place to visit when travelling around Hikkaduwa. The marine park is located along the northern end of the beach and offers a unique and fascinating glimpse into the rich marine life of the area. The park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1979 and presently it is a national park, with extended land area. Hikkaduwa National Park is an excellent place to observe the Hikkaduwa coral reef which stretches across a distance of four kilometres, home to over 60 species of corals and over 170 species of reef fish. A visit to the park is recommended when travelling in Hikkaduwa – specially for those who wish to learn more about the country's rich marine life.

Prayer Facilities

For Muslim travellers who require prayer facilities near Hikkaduwa National Park, plenty of private area will be available around the park area to make use of during prayer times. Muslim travellers may also visit some of the mosques in Gintota – which is located about 12 kilometres away – such as the Avalmale Mosque, Welipitimodara Mosque and Meeram Mosque.

Halal Food

There are a few Halal restaurants in the area for Muslim travellers who require Halal food in Hikkaduwa. Most of the Halal restaurants in Hikkaduwa can be found along the Hikkaduwa - Galle Road. It is also possible to visit some of the more prominent and expensive restaurants at well-known hotels in the area such as the Chaaya Tranz Hikkaduwa which are capable of arranging Halal meals upon prior notice.
