Lunuganga

Overview

Lunuganga Estate is the well-known country home of Geoffrey Bawa - a much- respected Sri Lankan architect and one of Asia's most influential architects. Lunuganga was one of Geoffrey Bawa's first pieces of work where he continued to experiment with design and architectural ideas for several years. Stretching across a massive 15 acres of land, Lunuganga Estate comprises an elegant cottage - featuring four suites for visitors - as well as beautiful paddy fields, lakes and diverse natural landscapes. The interior of the cottage has been exquisitely designed, with rich history and elegance emanating from every corner. In addition to a wealth of paintings and works of art, the cottage also features an Italian Renaissance garden as well as garden areas with symmetrical pavilions. Guided garden and boat tours are also available on request.

Prayer Facilities

Though designated prayer facilities at Lunuganga Estate will not be available for Muslim travellers, plenty of private area will be available throughout the estate to use during prayer times. Travellers who wish to visit a mosque will have to travel to some of the mosques in Beruwela – the neighbouring town of Bentota which is located about 6 kilometres away.

Halal Food

There are a few Halal restaurants in Bentota, but finding Halal food in Bentota can be slightly difficult. Most Halal restaurants in Bentota are mostly road-side shops, with prominent eateries being few in number and hard to spot. However some established hotel chains such as AVANI Bentota Resort & Spa and the Bentota Beach Hotel do serve Halal food on request. Muslim travellers could also visit the neighbouring town of Beruwela – which is home to quite a large Muslim population – for more dining options.
