Overview
The Bentota Bazaar is located in the heart of Bentota town and is a popular shopping area amongst local residents. The street market features a collection of shops and stalls selling a variety of items ranging from wood carvings to textiles to brass artefacts and souvenirs. Being a government-approved shopping area, the relatively quieter Bentota Bazaar is a better shopping option for those who wish to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy Monday market. The bazaar also features a tourist board office, tourist police station, post office and banking facilities. A visit to the bazaar is recommended for shoppers on the lookout for special discounts and bargains while shopping in Bentota.
Prayer Facilities
Though designated prayer facilities at Bentota Bazaar will not be available for Muslim travellers, plenty of private area will be available to make use of during prayer times. Travellers who wish to visit a mosque will have to travel to some of the mosques in Beruwela – the neighbouring town of Bentota which is located about 6 kilometres away.
Halal Food
Finding Halal food in Bentota can be relatively difficult since most Halal restaurants in Bentota are road-side shops, with prominent eateries being few in number and hard to spot. Muslim travellers could also visit the neighbouring town of Beruwela – which is home to quite a large Muslim population – for more dining options.
