Koggala Lake

Overview

The Hundungoda Tea Estate is an exquisite tea plantation covering an area of over 200 acres, nestled in the hills above Koggala. The massive estate comprises several plantations including those of rubber, cinnamon, pepper and coconuts, in addition to tea. Visitors to the plantation will be able to witness the production of Sri Lankan tea and will also be given the opportunity to sample a range of world-renowned speciality tea flavours. All visitors will also be treated to a complimentary cup of tea as well as a few refreshments to ensure an enjoyable visit! The plantation also houses a private tea museum that provides a fascinating insight into the history of Sri Lankan tea.

Prayer Facilities

Designated prayer facilities at Hundungoda Tea Estate will not be available for Muslim visitors but it is possible to request for a private area to make use of during prayer times. Finding a mosque in Unawatuna can also be difficult and Muslim travellers who wish to visit a mosque will need to go to some of the mosques in Galle – such as the Meera Mosque at the Galle Fort – which are located not too far away.

Halal Food

Though Halal food in Unawatuna is relatively difficult to find, there are a few Muslim-owned resorts that serve Halal food. For more dining options, Muslim travellers can visit some of the prominent Halal restaurants in Galle such as the Crêpe-ology Restaurant and the Indian Hut which are both located within the Galle Fort.
