Overview

The South Bolgoda Lake is a prominent lake in the Kalutara district, in Sri Lanka's western province. Spanning across a length of nearly 10 kilomtres, the South Bolgoda Lake together with the North Bolgoda Lake (located several kilometres to the North) make up the expansive Bolgoda Lake - Sri Lanka's largest natural lake that covers a large area of the Kalutara district. The lake measures up to nearly 50 feet in depth and is also the largest fresh water lake in the country. The larger North Bolgoda Lake is fed by a series of rivers that carry water from the South Bolgoda Lake, and carries its water to the sea via the Panadura estuary. A visit to the lake can provide several picture-perfect moments as well as a wealth of photography opportunities. The area is also an excellent spot for bird watching and is home to an abundance of flora and fauna, making it a must-visit location for nature lovers.

Prayer Facilities

Plenty of open space will be available around the South Bolgoda Lake area to make use of during prayer times. There are no mosques in Wadduwa and Muslim travellers who wish to visit a mosque may have to visit some of the mosques in nearby towns such as Panadura, Bandaragama and Kalutara. Some of the most prominent mosques close to Wadduwa include the Jhishtiya Mosque, Thakkiya Mosque and Atulugama Jummah Mosque in Bandaragama as we as the Eluwila Jummah Mosque in Panadura.

Halal Food

There are few Halal food options around Wadduwa and the South Bolgoda Lake area and Muslim travellers looking for a prominent Halal restaurant may have to head towards the nearby town of Kalutara which is home to an abundance of Halal restaurants – particularly along Mosque Road. Kandoori Restaurant and Sathira Food Center in Mahamewunawa are two popular Halal restaurants in Kalutara.
