Overview
The Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens is one of the highlights of Kandy and is amongst Sri Lanka's most prominent and well-known attractions. Located about 5 kilometres towards the west of Kandy City, the Peradeniya Gardens are home to over 4000 species of plants ranging from spices to palms to medicinal plants. The highlight of the garden is its vast range of orchids and houses a separate Orchid House with orchids of every colour imaginable. The garden spans across an area of nearly 150 acres and gains over 2 million visitors every year. The origins of the gardens date back as far as 1371 during the period of the Kandyan rule. A visit to the Peradeniya Gardens is a must when sight-seeing in Kandy - particularly for nature lovers!
Prayer Facilities
Though designated prayer facilities at Peradeniya Gardens will not be available, plenty of open space will be available within the garden premises to make use of during prayer times. Muslim travellers who wish to visit a mosque could visit some of the many mosques in Kandy such as the Mahayyawa Grand Mosque, Mawilmada Jummah Mosque, King Street Jumma Mosque and the Heerassagala Jummah Mosque.
Halal Food
Finding Halal food in Kandy will be quite easy, with Kandy being home to several Halal restaurants. Prominent Halal restaurants around Kandy include Dinemore, Little Hut and Kandyan Muslim Hotel as well as popular fast food chains such as KFC in DaladaVeediya and Peradeniya Road.
