Located at Carnegie House in Sullivans Cove, the Maritime Museum of Tasmania is an excellent place to learn more about the history of Tasmania's ships, seas and ship-building. The private maritime museum was established in 1974 and houses a wide range of fascinating items ranging from photo collections to paintings to models and relics – the largest maritime collection in Tasmania. Maritime Museum of Tasmania also houses a library of over 500 volumes as well as a book shop and a gift shop offering nautically themed gifts. The museum's close proximity to other prominent attractions in the area such as the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery as well as the Tourist and Visitor Information Centre, make it an excellent place to drop-by while sight-seeing in the Hobart.
