Overview

Located in the heart of Melbourne, on the banks of the Yarra River, the Royal Botanic Gardens of Melbourne are considered to be an important aspect of the city's heritage and cultural life. The beautiful landscaped gardens cover an area of over 38 hectares and offer over 10,000 species of native and exotic vegetation. Its fantastic plant collection include stunning camellias, rainforest flora, roses, as well as a wealth of other herbs and perennials from around the world. Royal Botanic Gardens is also home to a haven of birdlife including graceful black swans, bell birds, cockatoos and kookaburras. The Ian Potter Foundation Children's Garden is another highlight of the garden and offers plenty of activities for children - plant tunnels for crawling, rocks for climbing and forests for hiding. Royal Botanic Gardens offers several tours and walks to visitors for a better understanding of the historical and cultural significance of Melbourne's much-loved garden.
