Overview

Known for being one of the most historic and beautiful gardens in Melbourne, Fitzroy Gardens is an important Victorian Era landscaped garden in Australia and a prominent attraction in the city. The gardens span across an area of over 26 hectares and was originally intended to be a reserve in 1848. At present, Fitzroy Gardens is well-known for its series of trees that line the pathways in the park as well as the preserved scarred tree in the garden - which is an important Aboriginal site. Cooks' Cottage is another highlight and is a 1934 reconstructed cottage featuring exhibitions about Captain James Cook. The gardens are also home to a wealth of wildlife and visitors will be able to sight several resident critters - from brushtails to ringtail possums to rainbow lorikeets - making it a must-visit for nature lovers.
