Overview

Located just a few minutes away from the Christchurch Airport, Orana Wildlife Park is the only open-range zoo in New Zealand and is a very popular attraction in Christchurch. Opened to the public in 1976, the Orana Wildlife Park covers over 50 hectares of land area and is home to more than 400 animals including over 70 species. Visitors to the park will be able to experience unique encounters with the park's animals - be it hand-feeding a giraffe or travelling through lion territory. Orana Wildlife Park is also an excellent place to meet and learn more about New Zealand's endangered wildlife, including kiwis, tuatara, kea and a variety of native gecko species. Daily scheduled animal presentations conducted by wildlife guides are also available, letting visitors learn more about the park's creatures. A visit to Orana Wildlife Park is recommended for travellers sight-seeing in Christchurch - nature lovers in particular.

Though designated prayer facilities at Orana Wildlife Park will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, plenty of private space will be available to use during prayer times.
