Established in 1863, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens is located in the central city of Christchurch and is a prominent attraction in the city. Covering a land area of over 21 hectares, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens is home to a wide variety of New Zealand's exotic flora and fauna. The highlights at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens include the Herb Garden, Rose Garden, Cunningham house - which houses a collection of tropical orchids and carnivorous plants, Fern house, Rock Garden, Erica Garden, Water Garden and a mature native plant section. Plant species from across the globe are found at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, including plant collections from Asia, North America, Europe, South America and South Africa.
