Overview

Previously known as Hawke's Bay Museum & Art Gallery, MTG Hawke's Bay is a prominent museum, theatre and art gallery, and a well-known attraction in Napier, New Zealand. With its history dating back to 1865, MTG Hawke's Bay was established with the intention of providing more cultural and learning opportunities for the local Hawke's Bay community. Presently it houses over 100,000 objects in its collection and includes items showcasing the rich history and past of Hawke's Bay, New Zealand and the rest of the world. Highlights at MTG Hawke's Bay include the oldest item in the collection - a stone-age flint hand tool from Egypt - as well as the largest item - the Stage Coach used on the Napier–Taupo road. The MTG Hawke's Bay building itself is also noteworthy for its award-winning architecture and design elements.
