Overview

Also known as the Napier Aquarium, the National Aquarium of New Zealand is the largest display of aquatic life in the country and is a prominent attraction in the city. Opened to the public in 1976, the National Aquarium of New Zealand is home to over 1500 animals, including more than 50 species. It boasts numerous exhibits and features two temporary exhibit halls as well as a souvenir shop and cafe. Visitors to the aquarium will be able to witness a wide variety of animals ranging from sharks to stingrays to living corals and a huge range of fish species. The aquarium also offers visitors the unique experience of swimming with sharks, letting them come face-to-face with these magnificent sea creatures. Numerous kids' activities are also available, providing plenty to do for the whole family! A visit to the National Aquarium of New Zealand is recommended for travellers sight-seeing in Napier - particularly for nature lovers

Though designated prayer facilities at National Aquarium of New Zealand will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, it is possible to enquire for a private area to use during prayer times. There are also no mosques in Napier that Muslim travellers can visit and the nearest mosque – the Hawke's Bay Baitul Mokarram Masjid and Islamic Centre Trust – is located 18 kilometres south of Napier, in Hastings.
