Overview

Located in the Royal Fort on Île Sainte-Marguerite is the old maritime museum - Musée de la Mer. This museum of marine archaeology was once the state prison and is now a museum that is devoted to underwater archeology. Here, visitors will find treasures and objects of the sea, as well as ships dating back to the time of the Romans. The museum also has an exhibit devoted to the 'Man in the Iron Mask.' It is home to the prison cell where the famous and mysterious 'Man in the Iron Mask' was held captive. This unique museum is well worth a visit, and Sainte-Marguerite Island; the island on which the museum is located, will prove to be a fabulous destination for a day outing with the family.

Prayer Facilities

Even though Muslim visitors will not be able to find prayer facilities at the Musée de la Mer, they will be able to find plenty of quiet areas on the island, to offer their prayers. The city of Cannes is also home to a couple of mosques. Muslim tourists can therefore go back to the mainland and ask to be directed to the nearest mosque from there.

Halal Food

Musée de la Mer does not have a restaurant, but the Island of Sainte-Marguerite is known to have a couple of restaurants and snack joints. These establishments may not serve Halal food, but they will serve vegetarian and seafood dishes. Muslim tourists visiting the island also have the option of taking along a picnic for their own convenience.
