Overview
The first botanic garden of New Zealand - Dunedin Botanic Garden - holds rich historic significance as an attraction. Established in 1863, Dunedin Botanic Garden is located towards the north of central Dunedin, in close proximity to the University of Otago and the Northern Cemetery. The garden features a massive range of horticultural and botanical collections and stretches across over 30 hectares of land. Visitors to Dunedin Botanic Garden will be able to see numbers of beautiful roses, a rock garden and native plants of New Zealand - including several rare and endangered native plant species. Due to the garden's close location to the university, it is particularly popular amongst students who visit it during their free time. A visit to the Dunedin Botanic Garden is recommended for travellers sight-seeing in New Zealand - nature lovers in particular.
