Dunedin Chinese Garden

Overview

Located in the heart of Dunedin next to the Toitū Otago Settlers Museum, Dunedin Chinese Garden is a prominent attraction in the city and receives numbers of visitors throughout the year. It was opened to the public in 2008 after eight years of design that ensured the authenticity and cultural accuracy of the garden. Dunedin Chinese Garden features traditional Yuanlin style and was constructed using authentic Chinese material brought in from Shanghai. It covers an area of over 2,500 square metres and also features a gift shop selling a wide range of unique souvenirs as well as a tea house shop which serves a variety of Chinese teas. Dunedin Chinese Garden is host to many events and functions throughout the year and is an excellent place to visit, particularly during the warmer half of the year.

Prayer Facilities

Though designated prayer facilities at Dunedin Chinese Garden will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, plenty of open area will be available to use during prayer times. Travellers can also visit some of the few mosques in Dunedin such as the Masjid Al Huda or the Dunedin Islamic Centre and the prayer room at the Otago University - Otago Muslim Student's Association which serve the local Muslim community of the area.
