Parc de Merlet

Overview

For those visiting Chamonix with kids, a day trip to the Parc de Merlet is a must. Located in the Haute-Savoie, at an altitude of 1,543 metres above the Chamonix Valley, the Merlet Animal Park covers an area of 21 hectares, and is home to over 80 mountain animals. Visitors to the park will come across indigenous species like the Chamois, the Mouflon, the Fallow Deer, the Ibex, the Roe Deer, the Marmot, and the Sika Deer. These animals, along with the Llama, can be seen in their natural habitat, with no fences, roaming freely. During the summer months, visitors can also visit the exhibition on the history of the Merlet Animal Park, and numerous other presentations. Because of its location, visitors to the park will also be met with panoramic views of the Mont Blanc Massif, along with numerous other peaks and glaciers.

Prayer Facilities

While finding prayer facilities at Parc de Merlet will be impossible, Muslims visiting the park will find plenty of open space to offer their prayers. Since there are no known mosques in Chamonix, they will either have to find a quiet place in the park to pray, or they will have to return to their hotel at prayer times, which will prove to be quite inconvenient.

Halal Food

Although Muslim visitors will not be able to find Halal food at the Merlet Animal Park, or anywhere else in Chamonix, they will be able to enjoy some piping hot tea and a tasty snack at the snack-bar found at the park. They will however have to stick to the vegetarian and seafood options available.
