Overview

The Venice Clock Tower - also known as the St Mark's Clocktower - is a prominent renaissance structure located towards the north of Venice's principal public square, Piazza San Marco. The tower features a clock with building structures on either side, with an archway on the lower floors opening out to the city streets. The history of the clock tower dates back to the 15th century when the construction of a new clock tower was commissioned by the Senate. The tower and clock were intricately decorated with ultramarine and gold leaf to mark the grand entrance to the city. Since then, St Mark's Clocktower has undergone many renovations and upgrades and is presently a major landmark in Venice. It is a popular tourist attraction and offers tours for visitors in English, Italian and French upon prior booking.

Prayer Facilities

Though designated prayer facilities at the Venice Clock Tower will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, plenty of open space will be available around the area to use during prayer times. It is also possible to visit a few of the mosques in Venice such as the Al-Rahma Mosque and Venezia Centro Islamico which are the two main mosques in Venice.
