Amer Fort

Overview

Amer Fort, situated approximately 11 kilometres away from the city center is one of the most famous forts of Rajasthan and is a popular tourist attraction in the city. Built on a hill top overlooking the Maota Lake, the fort is definitely a must-visit site when in Jaipur. The fort, also known as Amar Palace, was the original home of Rajput royalty until the construction of the Jaipur Old City. Built in 1592, with red sandstone and intricate marble detail, the fort is known for its artistic style, blending both Hindu and Rajput architectural elements. The Amer fort is home to a number of beautiful palaces, gardens, courtyards, halls and temples. With its imposing ramparts, numerous gates, cobbled paths and breathtaking structures the exterior is as stunning as the beautiful interior that has elaborate mirror work that adds to its grandeur. Prayer Facilities

Muslim visitors will not find prayer facilities inside the fort; however the city of Jaipur is known to house a number of mosques that they could visit to offer their prayers. The most prominent mosque in the city is known to be the Jama Mosque. Those visiting the Amer Fort could ask the locals to direct them to a mosque close by, when needed.

Muslim tourists requiring Halal food will be able to locate several Halal restaurants serving a variety of cuisines in the city of Jaipur. They also have the option of dining at some great vegetarian restaurants serving fantastic local cuisine.
