Overview

The Prince of Wales Museum, now known as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, is one of the premier history museums in India. Housed in a building that is listed as a grade 1 heritage building, the museum is a great example of indo-saracenic style of architecture. Showcasing several collections of rare ancient art, sculptures and artifacts in its galleries, the museum is well worth a visit when in the city of Mumbai. Built in the 20th century, the building is a fascinating blend of 15th and 16th century Islamic and Guajarati design elements - in addition to British brickwork - making the museum one of the city's prized British raj structures; that alone makes it a must-visit landmark when in Mumbai.

Prayer Facilities

While Muslim visitors may not be able to find a prayer room within the museum's premises, they will be able to locate numerous prayer facilities in the city of Mumbai, as it is home to several mosques. Those visiting the museum could therefore ask the locals to direct them to the closest mosque, when needed.

Halal Food

The museum houses an outdoor cafeteria and since most food outlets in India have vegetarian items suitable for the many vegetarians in the country, Muslim visitors will definitely be able to get a bite to eat here. They will also be able to find several Halal dining options when in the city of Mumbai, as it is home to numerous Halal restaurants.
