Overview

The Pinacoteca di Brera, also known as the Brera Art Gallery, is Milan's main painting gallery open to the public. It houses some of the most prominent works of art by Italian artists and is visited by numbers of tourists throughout the year. Established in 1776, the building itself is a 14th-century monastery that was originally an art gallery for the students of Accademia di Belle Arti. It presently features famous Italian paintings from the 13th to 20th centuries such as several works of art by Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini and Tintoretto. Pinacoteca di Brera shares its site with Palazzo Brera and also features an enchanting historic botanical garden - Orto Botanico - behind it with a little vegetable garden and aromatic herbs, which is an excellent spot for visitors.

Prayer Facilities

Though designated prayer facilities at Pinacoteca di Brera will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, open space will be available around the gallery area to use during prayer times. It is also possible to visit a few of the mosques in Milan such as the Islamic Cultural Institute and the Masjid Milan which are the two main mosques in Milan.
