Overview

The Museo Poldi Pezzoli art museum in Milan is known for its vast collection of Italian and Netherlandish/Flemish art. Located at Teatro alla Scala, the Museum was once a private collection of the Italian nobleman Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli and after many upgrades was opened to the public in 1881 by the director of Brera Academy, to whom the property was left to in Pezzoli's testament. The 19th century building features Neoclassical style design elements and an English-style garden fashioned by the Swiss architect Simone Cantoni who rebuilt the palace. Visitors to the museum will be able to see numerous artefacts ranging from weaponry to ceramics to ancient jewellery and glasswork. Works of art at Museo Poldi Pezzoli include a number of paintings by over a hundred Italian painters as well as notable Northern European Painters such as Breughel the younger, Cranach, Goltzius, James Baker Pyne and Jacob Toorenvliet.

Though designated prayer facilities at Museo Poldi Pezzoli will be unavailable for Muslim travellers, open space will be available around the art museum area to use during prayer times. It is also possible to visit a few of the mosques in Milan such as the Islamic Cultural Institute and the Masjid Milan which are the two main mosques in Milan.
