Overview

Sforza Castle - also known in Italian as Castello Sforzesco - is a magnificent 15th century Italian castle in Milan housing a wide range of art collections and museums. Its history dates back to when its construction was first ordered by the ruler of Milan and was later enlarged by many of his successors to become the main residence of the Visconti lords in the city. At present, it houses many museums such as the Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco, the Museum of Ancient Art, Museum of Musical Instruments, the Egyptian Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Milan, the Applied Arts Collection, the Antique Furniture & Wooden Sculpture Museum and the Achille Bertarelli Print Collection. A highlight of the castle's Trivulziana Library is the 'Codex Trivulzianus' manuscript of Leonardo da Vinci which contains da Vinci's attempts to improve his literary education.
