Overview

Located deep below the surface of Naples, the Napoli Sotterranea spreads out its underground city with a series of tunnels, caves and passageways. The fascinating underground city features a total of over 150 caves carved from stone by the Greeks in the 4th century, deep beneath the earth and was later used over the centuries for various purposes - including for the Roman aqueduct system as well as an air raid shelter during World War II. A tour of Napoli Sotterranea is headed by a team of experienced guides who will provide a fascinating look at the rich history of the city located more than 40 metres below the streets and activity of the Naples Historic Centre. A visit to Napoli Sotterranea is recommended for adventurous travellers who wish to learn more about the city's past.

Even though designated prayer facilities at Napoli Sotterranea will not be available for visitors, open space will be available around the area to use during prayer times.
