Overview

The majestic seaside castle of Naples, Castel dell'Ovo, is the city's oldest standing fortification. The history of the site and the surrounding area date as far back as the 1st century BC when a luxury Roman villa - Castellum Lucullanum - was first built and later fortified in the 5th century by the Western Roman Emperor Valentinian III. The present Castel dell'Ovo was constructed atop the ruins of this villa in the 12th century by the Normans who conquered Naples and made the castle their seat. Overlooking the Porto Santa Lucia, Castel dell'Ovo offers breathtaking views of the city's waterfront and surrounding scenery. Once inside the castle, visitors will be able to see a series of buildings and structures that are often host to exhibitions, shows and special events. A walk through the castle will be a fantastic experience for travellers and a visit is recommended for those sight-seeing in Naples.

Prayer Facilities

Designated prayer facilities at Castel dell'Ovo will not be available for visitors but plenty of open space will be available around the castle area to use during prayer times. Naples is also home to quite a few mosques that can be visited such as the Masjid Jamaah Tabligh Eddawa, Associazione Culturale Islamica Zayd ibn Thabit and the Associazione Islamica Ahl-Al-Bait.
