Overview

Lamberti Tower - also known as Torre dei Lamberti - is Verona's tallest tower, measuring up to 84 metres in height. The tower was built in 1172 by the Lamberti Family - after whom the tower was named - with several upgrades and restorations made to it over the years, particularly during the 1400s when the tower was struck by lightning. The present tower features a large clock which was added in 1779 and two bells - the Marangona and the Rengo. The Marangona bell is used to signal the times of the day and work times as well as alerts for fire. The Rengo calls the city to arms and invokes the councils of the city. The tower itself is found in the heart of Verona, at Piazza delle Erbe - the town's marketsquare which was once the town forum during the Roman Empire. The top of the tower provides spectacular views of the surrounding city and a visit to the tower is recommended for travellers sight-seeing in Verona.
